TRIPTYCH 2012/2014

INDOOR et OUTDOOR

It occurs to me today that the starting point of the previous choreographies takes place in a peculiar geographic space. The interpreter, as an individual, was engaged with this territory.
Concerning FLAG, the main interest for this fascination moved to the idea of identity; putting the human being at the heart of the project.
If all the previous performances were, without cease, talking about the behavior of an individual in a group, FLAG will say itself through the figure of the solo. Separated but crossed by the same stake, we will let resound the impact of these three successive opuses.

Writing a solo “it is talking about oneself” Laurence Louppe
“If I am distinct from the others, it is through my body. Apparently I am myself because I have my own body, unsharable.
It is on this evidence that, in great part, is based the occidental idea of an individual, of a free person who would determine himself alone.
Yet the body is never thought as a closed entity, a self-made organism. It is constituted according to a context, a relationship. It is a social organization worked out in connection with an environment, with “someone” else.
In FLAG each interpreter has chosen an artistic practice which defines an environment beyond geographic borders. This choice induces a way of life, shapes his body and his identity.

Each one of these meetings reveals a language difficulty: Woo Jae Lee speaks neither French nor English. Vincent Warin who borrows the vocabulary used in the BMX universe and the interpreter coming from flamenco are both using languages unknown to me. These confrontations, oblige us, in order to be understood, to move ourselves, our intimate bounds, becoming different, making us different.
Crossed parts will be revealed, emerging from our respective universe, from this friction of languages.
Urbanization, privatization, globalization….change the use of public space and create standardization. These territories, which are as much “homes”, mix private and public notions, personal and collective spaces.
Dance in urban environment answers to the need of freedom. The outer environment obliges us to exceed our own limits (relation to the public, ground, weather, environment sound…..). The connection between Living Spectacle and public space is reversely fundamental: dance draws its inspiration and faces immediately its public, whereas public places rediscover spaces of freedom. Art in urban environment allows the re-appropriation of those spaces while inviting other forms of poetry.

For many years the company has invested public spaces: from “la legende des lieux”” in 1988 until “j’embrasse pas” performed in the festival of Chalon in 2010, and “Instinct” programmed actually in many festivals in France and abroad.
Through these different stakes, Flag questions the move between dramatic art in urban space and dramatic art in theater.
How far can we reinvent, infringe the rules of Art?
